Matthew Campbell
Vice President, Finance, Claims & Strategy
Matthew is the VP Finance, Claims & Strategy at Sovereign Insurance. As a seasoned business leader with nearly two decades in the insurance industry, he offers a breadth of knowledge and experience.
Matthew's journey began with Grant Thornton in Nova Scotia, where he articled, before moving to Toronto to complete his accounting designation with BDO. He then carried out in-depth tax training with PwC prior to moving from public accounting to the insurance sector in 2005.
On a quest to continue broadening his knowledge base, Matthew moved into the insurance services side of the industry, building out a risk management and project management function while intimately involved in the development of corporate strategy.
Matthew took a finance position with RSA Canada where he proceeded to hold various senior roles across the organization from finance to CEOs office, to claims. During his time at RSA, he spent two pivotal years in the international division in the UK learning about the global insurance industry.
Matthew’s passion for continuous learning and business advancement, as well as his ability to embrace diverse portfolios, led him to holding pivotal roles within prominent organizations and joining an executive team before the age of 40.
Since joining Sovereign Insurance in 2018, Matthew has exemplified his commitment to driving organizational growth and impact. In his executive function, he spearheads Finance with a focus on strategy development, risk management and project management initiatives while also having accountability for Claims. His strategic acumen and dedication have been instrumental in fostering positive change within Sovereign and the wider Cooperators group of companies.
Matthew exemplifies a holistic approach to leadership and development and is a fervent advocate for personal growth and cultural exchange. As a proud member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Matthew remains dedicated to fostering inclusivity and equity for all.
In addition to his CPA, CA, Matthew also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Acadia University as well as a Project Management Professional designation.
Matthew is based out of Toronto where he can often be found training for his next marathon or triathlon in between chasing his 3 young girls around.
